Black Township Fire and Rescue is located just outside the city limits of Mount Vernon, Indiana and we are 13 miles west of Evansville, Indiana in Posey County. First organized in 1952 they were the first county fire department for the southern half of Posey County. Today, Black Township Fire and Rescue is a township fire department which covers Black and Lynn Township (134 square miles). Black Township Fire and Rescue protects a mix of residential, commercial, rural, and industrial firefighting (with 18 major industries in just Black Township alone). They are also involved with water rescue with two major rivers bordering Posey County (the Ohio and Wabash rivers).

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to assist Wadesville Fire with a vehicle in the water on Oliver Rd. near Bishop Rd. Arriving units found a vehicle with two people in it that had driven through backwaters. Firefighters launched the boats to get to the persons in distress. The people trapped were not injured, however their vehicle was considered severely water damaged.

structure fire at 5495 Industrial Rd.
	Firefighters arrived with heavy smoke 	and fire visible on the Northwest corner 	of the home. Firefighters made a 
	quick attack on the home. Mt. Vernon 	City Fire was called to assist with an 	Engine crew. The fire was contained 
to a single room and its contents. The remainder of the home had smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to assist Marrs Twp. with a fully involved house fire. Arriving units found the structure mainly on the ground. High waters made getting to the fire difficult due to roads being flooded over. The home was considered abandoned and an investigation is underway.

Text Box: Black Township was given an opportunity to train in a home before it was demolished the property owner led the department use if for firefighter class as well as current member to freshen up their skills. Thanks to the homeowner for letting the firefighters use this home to better ourselves.

Text Box: Posey County is under a State of Emergency. Recent rains from the week have caused the Wabash and Ohio Rivers to spill from their banks. Water levels have been said to be near the flood levels of the ‘97 Flood. Numerous evacuations have taken place in the county and roads have been shut down due to high water. Avoid driving through standing water.

dispatched to a fully involved mobile home fire at Springfield and Record Rd. Arriving units found the home with a single room and contents on fire. The fire was quickly attacked and extinguished. Firefighters were called back 3 more times later in the day for re-ignition. The cause of the fire is under investigation

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to a garage and house fire on Springfield near Record Rd. Arriving units immediately went to work stopping both fires from spreading. Wadesville Fire was also dispatched to assist. The causes of both fires is under investigation at this time.

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to an accident with injuries on Blackford Rd. near Breeze Rd. Arriving units found a pickup truck that had overturned into a ditch 15 ft. down in a ravine. Firefighters worked quickly to remove the victim. The patient was helicoptered due to his injuries. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Greathouse Rd. Arriving units found a home fully involved. Firefighters from New Harmony and Wadesville were called to assist. The home was deemed a total loss, but everyone made it out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to assist Marrs Twp. with a mobile home fire. Arriving units found the structure partially on fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly. An investigation is underway as to the cause of the fire.

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to a two car head on collision on Hwy. 62 east of the Wabash Memorial Bridge. Arriving units found both patients having severe injuries. One patient was flown by helicopter, the other taken by ambulance. They conditions are listed as unknown.

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to a Fire Investigation on Crab Orchard Rd. Arriving units found a barn fully involved and partially on the ground. Units from New Harmony, Marrs Township, and Wadesville assisted. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to assist Marrs Twp. Fire with a residential fire. Units arrived to a working fire. Firefighters worked quickly from both departments to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire in under investigation.

10/22/11
Text Box: Black Township was dispatched to a 
report of tires on fire at Bradley Trucking 
on Hwy. 69 just north of Mt. Vernon. When
units were in the area it was visible that 
this was a huge fire. Agencies from Marrs 
Twp., Wadesville, and New Harmony were
immediately dispatched. Sabic Plastics 
Foam Truck was also requested for the 
fire. An estimated total of 150 to 200 semi 
tires were on fire in a huge pile. Approximately 2000 gallons of foam was applied to the fire before it was extinguished. The fire is still under investigation.
